According to the Associated Press, the Ukrainian military claimed that Russian forces fired 93 missiles and 200 drones into Ukraine on the 13th local time.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on social media that "a Western-backed F-16 fighter jet shot down 81 missiles, including 11 that it shot down."
"Millions of people are terrified by Russia's attack," he said, stressing that "a strong response is the only way to stop terrorism."
Missiles and drones that escaped the air defenses were found to have fallen mainly around the capital, Kyiv, and energy infrastructure in western Levy and southern Odessa.
Power companies across Ukraine are expanding their circulating blackouts to deal with energy supply and demand from air raid damage.
Russia has acknowledged such large-scale airstrikes, saying they were in response to Ukraine's attack on the country's southern Taganrog air base using a long-range missile, Attax, the day before.
