The Constitutional Court has filed a case, but what procedures will the impeachment trial proceed?

The Constitutional Court received a resolution to impeach Yoon Suk Yeol's president at around 6:15 a.m. submitted by Chung Cheong-rae, chairman of the National Assembly's Legislative and Judiciary Committee.

Immediately after receiving the case, Moon Hyung-bae, acting head of the Constitutional Court, said in a press briefing, "We will make a quick and fair trial."

On the 16th, he said he would convene a meeting of judges at 10 a.m. next Monday to discuss the schedule of handling the case.

He also said he would immediately start preparatory proceedings by appointing two life-time judges and forming a constitutional researcher TF.

The Constitutional Court will enter the impeachment trial for up to 180 days when the impeachment resolution is received.

The impeachment will be heard after a hearing date, including the submission of presidential opinions, investigation data, and witness applications.

Former President Guaga Roh Moo Hyun was sentenced to the Constitutional Court's decision after 63 days and former President Park Geun Hye was sentenced to the hearing after 91 days.

Currently, only six out of nine constitutional judges are left, so is there no obstacle to hearing whether to impeach the president?

The Constitutional Court is operating under a "six-member system" without the replacement of three people, including former Constitutional Court Chief Justice Lee Jong-seok, who retired in October.

According to the Constitutional Court Act, the court must have at least six people in favor when making a decision such as impeachment.
