The White House, the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a joint briefing that the recent surge in drone sightings appeared to have misidentified manned aircraft.
However, as rumors spread that Iran is flying drones in the Atlantic Ocean, public opinion prevails that it is not convinced by the U.S. government's position.
President-elect Donald Trump said on social media, "If the federal government cannot inform the public about the true nature of drones, it must be shot down."
Mayor James Dodd of New Jersey also criticized the government for not even identifying the drone's source, and former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan pointed out that "the people are concerned and frustrated by the government's indifferent attitude."
