On the 15th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the contents of the amendment to the Restriction of Special Taxation Act, which passed the plenary session of the National Assembly, and said, "The cultural expense income deduction, which was applied to books, performances, museums, art galleries, newspapers and movies, will also be applied to gyms and swimming pools from July next year."
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, those earning less than 70 million won in total salary can receive 30 percent of the facility's usage fee within the 3 million won limit. The applicable facilities are companies that have applied for participation among 13,000 gyms and swimming pools reported to local governments nationwide according to the Sports Facility Act.
A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official said, "The inclusion of sports facilities in the cultural expense income deduction will increase public sports activities," adding, "We expect not only to promote public health, but also to grow related businesses such as facilities, supplies, and clothing."
