"Tariffs will make the U.S. richer," Trump said at a news conference at his home, the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, when asked about concerns about worsening inflation if high tariffs are imposed.
When asked if a negotiation plan related to tariffs was under consideration, he said, "We will have great negotiations," and insisted, "We have all the cards."
Referring to the imposition of tariffs on steel in the first phase, he said, "If we hadn't imposed tariffs of more than 50% on China or other countries, we would have continued dumping."
"Other countries, including China, put tariffs on the U.S., but we didn't," Trump said. "If they put tariffs on the U.S., they will tax the same amount."
