Chairman Woo issued a statement and said it is not desirable to have an unnecessary controversy over the appointment of a constitutional judge at a time when state stability is urgent.
He then pointed out that under the constitution, nine constitutional judges will be selected by the National Assembly, the President, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and three of them will receive formal appointments from the president, and the actual power to elect lies with the National Assembly.
In particular, he stressed that the vacancy of the Constitutional Court has already been over two months, and in the meantime, the composition of the nine-member Constitutional Court has become more important due to the emergency martial law and the impeachment of the president.
