The Changwon Court of the Busan High Court sentenced Changwon Mayor Hong Nam-pyo to six months in prison and one year of probation in an appeal trial for violating the Public Official Election Act.

The court overturned the lower court's acquittal and sentenced him to invalidity of the election.

Mayor Hong was put on trial for proposing a special economic report for Changwon City in exchange for not running for the mayor to A, who was mentioned as a candidate for Changwon Mayor of the People's Power during the 2022 local elections.

If Mayor Hong, an elected official, is fined more than 1 million won for violating the election law, the election will be invalid.
