The Suwon High Court sentenced former Deputy Governor Lee to seven years and eight months in prison today (19th) on charges of violating the Foreign Exchange Transaction Act.
The appeals court maintained the first trial's judgment that the Ssangbangwool Group delivered $8 million to the North at the request of the former lieutenant governor.
At the same time, it was determined that $3.94 million of this was taken out of the country without a due reporting process, and $2 million of this was delivered to the Korean Workers' Party.
Former lieutenant governor Lee was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison in the first trial held in June.
