As insurance companies strengthen their screening of indemnity insurance payments, refusal to pay for non-payment treatments such as cataract surgery and knee stem cell treatment is increasing.

From 2021 to the third quarter of this year, there were more than 1,000 applications for damage relief related to real loss insurance filed with the Korea Consumer Agency, and most of them complained that insurance payments were rejected.

By type of treatment, cataract surgery or manual treatment, which is non-payment treatment, was the most common, accounting for 44% of the total, and in particular, applications related to knee stem cell treatment increased significantly this year.

The Korea Consumer Agency asked to secure medical findings if hospitalization is required after cataract surgery, and for knee stem cells, check the osteoarthritis stage announced as a new medical technology before being treated.
