Trump said in an NBC News interview that the interim budget bill was unacceptable, arguing that it was a "Democratic trap" that reflected too much Democratic demands.
It also came up with a new demand to remove the debt limit set by Congress to limit the amount of money the government can borrow.
The temporary budget bill negotiated with Democrats by House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, will be temporarily shut down by the federal government if it is not processed by March 20 local time until March 14 next year, after Trump's inauguration.
Trump said Democrats have also been calling for the debt ceiling to be abolished, and pressed that if a shutdown occurs, it will begin while the Democratic president is present.
