U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has named Mark Burnett, the producer of the popular television show The Apprentice, as his special envoy to the United Kingdom.

Trump said on his social media that Burnett, who has a particular career as a producer of television series, has a diplomatic sense and international recognition to take on the important role of Britain's envoy.

Burnett produced "The Apprentice," which first aired on NBC in the U.S. back in 2004, and Trump raised awareness across the nation through the program.

Trump explained that Burnett will work with a focus on promoting diplomatic relations between the two countries and mutual interests, including trade, investment and cultural exchanges.

Trump previously nominated billionaire financier Warren Stephens, a big backer, as his candidate for ambassador to the United Kingdom.

Stevens, chairman of the Arkansas-based investment bank Stevens Inc, is a major Republican donor who reportedly donated $2 million (W2.8 billion) to Trump-backed Super PACs during this year's presidential election.
