Professors of medical schools and representatives of doctors from all over the world, including practitioners, medical doctors, and medical students, gathered together to urge the government to withdraw its policy to increase medical schools.

It was the first meeting of medical representatives since the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol, who demanded that medical school recruitment be stopped in 2026 unless they stop recruiting medical schools next year.

The medical community, which had been divided for a while over the government's health care reform policy, came together.

Medical professors, practitioners, volunteer doctors, medical doctors, and medical students held the first national medical representative meeting since impeachment to stop the government's unfounded medical reform, including the expansion of medical school quotas.

Park Hyung-wook, chairman of the emergency committee of the Medical Association, emphasized unity, saying that the direction the medical community should move forward now is to create a tradition of discussing in one fence.

[Park Hyung-wook / Chairman of the Emergency Response Committee of the Korean Medical Association: I strongly urge the National Assembly and the government to gather the will of the entire medical profession. Recruitment of medical schools for the 2025 academic year should be stopped as much as possible. If the government ignores these warnings, stop recruiting medical schools in 2026....]

Representatives from each region also proposed future countermeasures against healthcare reform, calling for the presidents of each university to take active action, and holding the government accountable for its hasty policies.

[Kim Kyo-woong / Chairman of the Korean Medical Association: Hope for reality can only be seen with all the people. Now is the time to change the outcome with our actions.]

[Acting President Kang Dae-sik: The current presidential impeachment bill has been handed over to the Constitutional Court. I think the justification for the wrong medical policy promotion has also disappeared.

Politicians have also spoken out.

Ahn Cheol Soo People's Power, a doctor-turned-lawmaker, argued that the government, ruling and opposition parties, and the medical community should form an emergency consultative body to discuss and that acting President Han Deok-soo should apologize for the declaration of blocking majors.

[Ahn Cheol Soo / People's Power] Now that the president is suspended, the order is to correct the most wrong medical policy. Even now, the acting president, the ruling and opposition parties and the medical community must put their heads together.]

While the government is determined to continue medical reform after President Yoon's impeachment, attention is being paid to whether the divided medical community will be able to continue the united movement.
