Among the first generation of Sakhalin Koreans who returned to their permanent residence, 78 elderly people living alone who are unable to move due to illness and old age live in the Sakhalin Korean Welfare Center.
About 50 people, including residents and employees of the welfare center, attended the consolation delivery ceremony.
Lee Sang-deok, head of the Overseas Koreans Agency, who attended the delivery ceremony, stressed that the Overseas Koreans Administration will not spare any support for Sakhalin Koreans returning to permanent residence to settle well in their homeland, and that it is the government's responsibility to take care of those who have suffered historical pain until the end.
