NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutter has told Ukrainian President Zelensky that he must stop criticizing the German chancellor for resuming communication with Russian President Putin.

In an interview with Germany's dpa news agency, Rutter said he had told Zelenskyy on several occasions to stop criticizing German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

In addition, he said it was thanks to Chancellor Scholz that Germany was the second-largest country after the United States to provide military aid to Ukraine, stressing that this is something Ukraine should be grateful for.

It is unusual for Secretary-General Rutter to publicly address his personal conversation with President Zelensky.

Earlier, Zelensky criticized Scholz for undermining efforts to isolate Russia after it was revealed he had spoken to Putin last month.

It has also complained several times about Germany's failure to support Ukraine's desired Taurus cruise missiles.
