The Suwon District Prosecutors' Office appealed today (24th) against the sentence of Lee Hwa-young, a former vice governor of peace in Gyeonggi Province, who is suspected of being involved in the remittance of Ssangbangwool Group to North Korea.

The prosecution said it appealed to correct some legal misunderstandings, including violations of the Foreign Exchange Act, and said it would make a ruling equivalent to illegality.

Earlier, the second trial court ruled that the Ssangbangwool Group delivered $8 million to the North at the request of the former lieutenant governor Lee, but sentenced him to seven years and eight months in prison, taking into account the sentencing conditions.
