The new Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Martzel Chiolaku, began its duties yesterday (24th) after being sworn in by President Klaus Johanis at the presidential palace.
Romania's parliament had earlier narrowly passed the confirmation quorum of 233 votes, confirming the new government ministers with 240 votes in favor and 143 against.
Ciolaku, who is the leader of Romania's largest political party, the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and has been prime minister since June last year, will continue as prime minister with the launch of the new government.
In a statement, Chiolaku said the new government would try to regain the trust of the people and find the best solution to overcome the difficulties with its coalition partners.
The new government is composed of pro-European parties, including the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Hungarian Democratic Union (UDMR), centered on the Social Democratic Party.
Political turmoil has continued in Romania due to the recent controversy over the invalidation of presidential votes and the rapid rise of far-right and anti-European forces, and the confusion has ended for now as pro-European parties have agreed to form a coalition excluding them, the Associated Press said.
