The opening of the Korean embassy in Cuba, which was aimed at the end of this year, is expected to be delayed to early next year as it is later than expected.

This was attributed to a delay in the overall preparation process due to poor Cuban economic conditions, including frequent power outages and fuel shortages, and the lack of local supplies such as office fixtures at the planned site of the mission.

Currently, mission agents in Cuba have set up a temporary office in the planned embassy site of a business trade center in the capital city of Havana.

It houses the offices of Cuba's state-run news agency and major airlines, as well as the KOTRA Havana trade office, as well as diplomatic missions abroad in Greece and other countries.

Since establishing diplomatic relations on February 14, South Korea and Cuba have been increasing their contact by holding their first foreign ministerial meeting in New York in the wake of the U.N. General Assembly in September.

On the other hand, North Korea indirectly expressed displeasure with diplomatic relations between South Korea and Cuba, such as reducing the frequency of Cuba-related news.

During a visit to President Miguel Diaz-Canel on September 27, North Korean Ambassador Han Soo-chul also kept South Korea-Cuba relations in check by delivering a message from Kim Jong-un emphasizing the development of North Korea-Cuba relations.

In the meantime, Granma, a state-run media representing the Cuban government's position, maintains a friendly tone with North Korea, such as a visit to the Russian defense minister or a quick news of military cooperation between North Korea and Russia.

In the recent news on Korea, it is known that it deals with the Nobel Prize in Literature by Han Kang and the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol.
