A plane departing from Azerbaijan to Russia crashed in Kazakhstan, but in a rare case of a plane crash, nearly half of the passengers survived dramatically.

Authorities in Kazakhstan say the Azerbaijani airliner crashed near the western Aktau airport.

Videos of the plane's fuselage crashing into the ground and bursting into flames were posted on social media.

Kazakh authorities say 67 passengers and crew members were on board at the time of the accident, of which more than 30 were believed to have died.

It also said at least 29 survivors have survived dramatically so far and been admitted to nearby hospitals.

In the initial investigation, the plane was known to have collided with a flock of birds in bad weather, but it is expected to take time to investigate the exact cause because some pointed out that it was the impact of the drone attack.
