The final selection of 13 cultural cities in Korea...KRW 260 billion to be supported by 2027

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has finally designated 13 places as Korean cultural cities, including Sejong Special Self-Governing City, Sokcho City in Gangwon Province, Tongyeong City in South Gyeongsang Province, and Suncheon City in South Jeolla Province.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to invest 20 billion won per city and 260 billion won in 13 cultural cities by 2027 to support various cultural projects that meet the goals and visions applied by local governments.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism expects about 1 trillion won in economic ripple effects and 3,000 jobs.

In addition, the government decided to pay additional project costs to cultural cities with excellent performance by evaluating their business performance every year, and to impose penalties on poor local governments.

There are 13 cultural cities in Korea, including Sejong Special Self-Governing City, which focuses on Hangeul culture, Sokcho City, which specializes in the natural environment of the East Sea and the food culture of displaced people, Andong City, Gyeongsangbuk-do, which aims to become the Confucian cultural capital of Korea, and Jindo County, Jeollanam-do, which focuses on folk culture.
