There are often cases of fire due to the spontaneous ignition of fried residue piled up at fried food restaurants such as chicken restaurants that are closed.

Police and fire departments directly confirmed how the frying debris caught fire through experiments.

The inside of the fryer is blackened, and the floor is littered with fried debris.

It was a fire at a fried food restaurant, and the fire started from the piled fried residue.

Thirteen of the fires at fried food restaurants in Daejeon over the past three years have been found to have ignited from fried debris.

Most of them occurred in the early morning hours when they were not open.

As the number of fires caused by spontaneous ignition from fried debris increased, police and fire fighting directly confirmed how the fire started from fried debris.

Smoke slowly rises from the piled fried residue, and then sparks are generated, melting the plastic container in an instant.

As the fried residue meets oxygen, heat is generated, leading to a fire.

[Jeon Joo-hwan / Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency Fire Detection Team: When unsaturated fatty acids (of fried food) and oxygen meet, oxidation reaction heat is generated. It can ignite when it reaches a certain temperature as heat accumulates from the middle of the frying residue.

Police and fire authorities say that the temperature inside the accumulated fried debris can sometimes rise more than 600 degrees, and that the use of fire-resistant containers can prevent it from leading to larger fires.

[Yoon Hong-beom / Daejeon Daedeok Fire Station Fire Investigation Team: If you use metal containers rather than plastic containers, you can reduce the possibility of fire. And throwing away the fried residue that occurred that day at that time will help prevent fire.]

In addition, it is advised that the fire can be prevented by lowering the temperature by using a fan or the like as the heat accumulated from the frying residue causes the fire.
