Tom Homan, who U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has named as the head of border affairs, the so-called "border tsar," has said he will detain families of illegal immigrants with children born in the U.S. together in detention facilities.

Homan told The Washington Post that illegal immigrants with children born in the U.S. and who have citizenship will also be detained and deported along with their children, and that he will let himself decide whether to leave the child in the U.S.

Homan pointed out that illegal immigrants decided to have children even though they knew they were staying in the U.S. illegally, putting their families in that situation on their own.

This is a resurgence of the family detention system that the Biden administration abolished in terms of human rights protection, and has made it clear that it will also build new detention facilities that President Biden has eliminated.

Homan said he would build family facilities, although how many beds would be needed to accommodate illegal immigrant families would depend on the data.

On his first day in office, Trump said he would carry out the largest illegal immigrant deportation operation in U.S. history and selected Homan as the right person to do so.
