Organization officials who held the 50th anniversary of Jeon Tae-il's death in downtown Seoul in violation of COVID-19 quarantine guidelines were also convicted at the appeal trial.

The Seoul Central District Court recently sentenced Kim Soo-eok, the head of a civic group charged with violating the Gypsy Act, to one year in prison, two years of probation, and a fine of 3 million won, as in the first trial.

Two group officials who were indicted together were also sentenced to probation and fines for imprisonment like the first trial.

Kim and others are accused of violating the Seoul Metropolitan Government's quarantine guidelines, which limited the number of assembly members to 99 in November 2020, and holding rallies and marches involving more than 300 people at Jeontaeil Bridge in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

The prosecution indicted Kim and others together in May and June of the same year, believing that they violated the police's notice of prohibition and pushed ahead with the assembly.
