The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission has launched an investigation after confirming that the air inside the Hanbit 6 containment building escaped to the outside without going through a radiation monitor.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission said it was reported by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power at around 2:20 p.m. today that the air inside the Hanbit 6 containment building was discharged to the outside without going through a radiation monitor.

The number of times the air inside the containment building was discharged outside without radiation monitoring was six times from October 8 to December 10.

KHNP explained that there were no radiation-related details, such as the actual emission of tritium, the representative nuclide, being confirmed to be less than one-third of the total annual allowable emission.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission is inspecting the safety of the site at the Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant's regional office and will send an investigation team composed of experts from the Nuclear Safety and Technology Institute to the site.
