Representative Lee Jae-myung is said to have ordered to refer Representative Kim to the Ethics Tribunal at a closed Supreme Council meeting to find out how he left the country.
Earlier, the Democratic Party's leadership asked lawmakers not to leave the country at a general meeting of lawmakers last week as it is currently in an emergency situation and is set to vote at various plenary sessions.
Representative Kim reportedly did not disclose the reason to the party leadership as he was on his way to the U.S. around the weekend.
In response, Representative Kim said on his SNS, "I deeply regret and reflect on my failure to participate in the vote on the impeachment of acting President Han Deok-soo," and said he would step down from all party posts.
