The U.S. State Department said it saw South Korea peacefully follow the procedures outlined in the Constitution when asked about its position on the impeachment motion against Acting President Han Duck-soo.

At the same time, he said he was ready to work with Acting President Choi Sang-mok.

The State Department emphasized that the most important thing is that South Korea has shown democratic resilience and strongly supports the Korean people in this process.

He also made it clear that he supports an ironclad alliance that unites the two countries.

In recent years, the South Korea-U.S. alliance has made great progress, he said, adding that he expects to make more progress through cooperation with South Korea.

The U.S. Department of Defense once again affirms its support for South Korea, its people, democratic procedures and the rule of law, and says the U.S. security commitment to the South Korea-U.S. alliance is ironclad.

Reuters said a U.S. government official has been monitoring the situation since the impeachment motion was passed.

At the same time, he said there was no effect on the U.S. Forces Korea's preparedness.

Earlier, the U.S. government expressed grave concern about President Yoon Suk Yeol's declaration of martial law, and has since evaluated the process of voting for impeachment by the National Assembly as the implementation of democratic resilience.
