Canada has dispatched ministers to Florida in the U.S. to continue negotiations with Trump to avoid the tariff bomb declared by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
The Associated Press reported that Canadian Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc and Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie arrived at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, on the 27th local time and met with Trump.
The two ministers met with Howard Rutnick and Doug Burgum, who were appointed as Trump's second secretary of commerce and interior secretary, respectively, and had "a positive and productive meeting," LeBlanc said.
In particular, they outlined a multibillion-dollar plan to strengthen Canadian border security and reaffirmed their commitment to counter damage caused by fentanyl.
Rutnick and Burgum decided to deliver this to Trump.
On the 29th of last month, four days after the tariff policy was announced, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited the Mar-a-Lago resort and met with Trump.
Earlier, Trump pressured Canada and Mexico to impose 25% tariffs if they don't control their borders to prevent illegal immigration and fentanyl coming to the United States.
He also mocked Canada as the 51st U.S. state and Prime Minister Trudeau called it the governor.
