The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport held its fifth briefing today at 7 p.m. to explain the accident so far.
First of all, there has been no change in the nine-minute situation from the initial landing attempt to the final collision from the previous briefing.
After the first attempt to land at 8:54 a.m., it was repeated, and three minutes later at 8:57 a.m., it received a bird-moving warning from the control tower, and two minutes later, the pilot made a distress call, Mayday request, and it was confirmed that the final collision occurred four minutes later.
However, we have not yet understood why the engine was damaged during the first landing attempt, and why the landing gear did not open at the time of landing and landed on the fuselage.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport explained that there is a high possibility of a bird collision in terms of communication, but it has not yet been confirmed whether there has actually been a bird collision.
However, the weather conditions at the time of landing said that there is no problem with the operation of the aircraft in both the direction of the wind and the wind speed.
At the time of the accident, a total of four bird collision prevention personnel worked at Muan Airport, and one of them was working outdoors.
The ministry has also been cautious in its response, reiterating that it has secured both types of black boxes, flight recorders and voice recorders, so an examination of the records will reveal the exact circumstances.
At the same time, the government continues its night rescue efforts.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said it plans to rescue the last person, and stressed that it will do its best, saying that there are more people in the field besides 1,572 people involved.
The runway of Muan Airport, where the accident occurred, will be closed until 5 a.m. on January 1 next year, and will be reported through regular briefings twice a day, 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. from tomorrow.
