The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said it will lead a U.S. investigation team to help South Korean aviation authorities investigate the disaster.
The investigation team includes Boeing, the manufacturer of the disaster's 737-800, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The NTSB may be in charge of the investigation if it is difficult to analyze domestically, as the appearance of the Flight Data Recording Unit (FDR) of the disaster plane was partially damaged and collected at the scene of the accident.
The NTSB is an independent U.S. federal investigative agency responsible for investigating civil traffic accidents, including aviation as well as certain types of highway accidents, ship and ocean accidents, bridge collapses, and rail accidents.
