A hacker behind the Chinese government infiltrated U.S. Treasury computers this month and stole some information, AFP reported.

The hacker hacked Beyond Trust, a company that provides cybersecurity services to the U.S. Treasury Department, and remotely accessed the Treasury's workstation to secure some of the documents, AFP said.

The U.S. Treasury Department has been briefed on the situation by Beyond Trust and informed the Cyber Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and is working with law enforcement to determine the damage.

The Treasury Department also reported the incident to the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, saying it attributes it to a Chinese government-sponsored group of intelligent persistent threats (APT).
