The coastal tourism district of Wonsan Galma, Gangwon-do, which North Korea has worked hard on, will be opened in June next year after completing more than a decade of construction.

The Korean Central News Agency reported that Chairman Kim Jong-un visited hotels and others completed in the coastal area of Galma on the 29th and presented specific tasks for the development of the tourism industry.

Chairman Kim said that developing tourism would pioneer new areas of socialist culture construction, stressing that the construction of the Galma Coastal Tourism District is an important first step in bringing the country's tourism industry to a breakthrough development process.

Chairman Kim's visit to the Galma district was accompanied by his daughter Joo-ae.

The construction of the Galma Coastal Tourism District began in 2014 to utilize the long white sand beach of the Galma Peninsula in Wonsan as a tourism resource, but the construction was once suspended due to sanctions against North Korea and COVID-19.
