Acting President Choi Sang-mok just held the 6th meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters in connection with the Jeju Air plane disaster.

There were instructions related to the support of bereaved families and the identification of the cause of the accident.

Let's listen to it.

[Choi Sang-mok / Acting President]
Today is the first day of the new year and it's even more regrettable because it's the day to celebrate with my family. I pray for the souls of the victims and express my deepest condolences once again to the bereaved families who lost their precious families.

The most urgent issue at the moment is the delivery of the victims to the bereaved families. The identification of all 179 victims was completed overnight, and the funeral process began, including being handed over to the bereaved families and completing the burial at the funeral home.

To ensure that there is no shortage for the bereaved families, related agencies such as the National Police Agency should respect the opinions of the bereaved families as much as possible and communicate sufficiently in the process.

The Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport should take action as quickly as possible on the site for people who are curious about or need to answer through the integrated support center, and the Ministry of Public Administration and Security should organize the issues that are difficult to resolve immediately at the site so that they can discuss them together in the central committee and come up with solutions.

In particular, for bereaved families who come to the site using personal leave, please consider ways to reduce the burden, such as recommending workplaces to allow bereaved families to be given separate leave if necessary by related agencies such as the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

Currently, our investigators and the U.S. Transportation Safety Commission are jointly investigating the cause of the accident. The cause of the accident will be revealed by comprehensively analyzing and reviewing detailed investigations of aircraft and aircraft and black box results.

The most important thing in an accident investigation is to ensure fairness and objectivity in addition to the expertise of the investigation. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport once again requests that the investigation process be carried out strictly in accordance with the laws and international standards related to the accident investigation.

As the investigation into the cause of the accident is just beginning, various opinions of experts are being reported through broadcasting and the Internet. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and others are urged to further strengthen communication efforts with bereaved families and the media so that related information and facts are accurately and transparently communicated to the bereaved families and the people during the investigation.

Even on New Year's Day, many volunteers and public officials are guarding the accident site and being with the bereaved families. In addition, I heard that many people from all over the country as well as institutional organizations send lunch boxes, bottled water, and hot packs.

As the head of the company's headquarters, I express my respect and gratitude. Based on your dedication, the government will also do its best to identify the cause of the accident and support the bereaved families so that they can return to their daily lives as soon as possible.
