Yesterday (31st), police secured a statement that a driver of a car had been diagnosed with dementia in connection with an accident in which a car drove into a traditional market in Seoul.

Yangcheon Police Station in Seoul yesterday investigated driver A in his 70s and secured a statement that he had been diagnosed with dementia about two years ago and had taken medicine.

In a police investigation, Mr. A said that he was worried about the vehicle discharge, so he dragged it for a long time, and he accelerated to avoid the bus that was ahead, and then applied the brake in front of the market stand, but he said he couldn't remember it well from then on.

As a result of analyzing CCTV footage around them, the police confirmed that the rear brake of the vehicle was operating normally, and accordingly, the weight is on the driver's negligence rather than vehicle defects.

A police official explained that we need to investigate further to see if dementia affected the accident, and that A is still checking whether he/she has symptoms and whether he/she is taking medicine.
