About 30 members of the April 16 Sewol Disaster Family Council visited Muan International Airport, where the bereaved families of the Jeju Air disaster gathered, to express their condolences by paying tribute to the joint memorial altar.
They visited Mokpo New Port in Jeollanam-do, where the Ferry Sewol hull is located for the New Year, and did not go straight back to Muan Airport.
Considering the situation of the bereaved families, who have not yet been handed over even the bodies of their families, the visit ended by burning incense quietly without meeting the bereaved families.
"We have been fighting for 11 years to create a society where disasters are not repeated again in the wake of the Ferry Sewol disaster," said Kim Jong-ki, chairman of the Sewol Family Council. "I feel sad and heartbroken why disasters keep repeating."
He added, "I'm so sorry and heartbroken whether we should have tried more or we should have fought more."
In addition, the victims' solidarity of disasters, which includes the families of social disasters such as the collapse of Sampoong Department Store, the Daegu subway fire, and the collapse of Hakdong, plans to visit the joint memorial altar at Muan Airport around this afternoon.
