After Acting President Choi Sang-mok appointed two candidates for the Constitutional Court recommended by the National Assembly, the backlash from the ruling and opposition parties continued.

The power of the people pointed out that acting Choi will be responsible and evaluated, and Chairman Woo Won-sik and the opposition party argued that the remaining candidates should be appointed in respect of the right to elect the National Assembly.

The power of the people, who expressed strong regret over the appointment of Acting President Choi Sang-mok as a constitutional judge, set the day that responsibility and evaluation will follow even after a day.

Without sufficient discussion at the Cabinet meeting, he also pointed out that Acting President Choi made a decision on his own.

[Kwon Young-se / People's Power Emergency Management Committee Chairman: (We) intend to put the top priority on stabilizing state affairs, but the appointment of a constitutional judge is very regrettable and cannot avoid responsibility and evaluation....]

At a closed-door meeting of the leadership held on the first day of the new year, there were complaints that the acting Choi's decision would be evaluated by history, but the party is said to have been organized with the aim of putting "stabilization of state affairs" first.

The public's position is that there is no plan to negotiate with the opposition at this time on the appointment of the remaining constitutional justice candidate whose appointment has been suspended.

The Democratic Party criticized that it was unconstitutional and contempt of the people to selectively appoint only some candidates when the process of recommending the National Assembly was over.

The ruling and opposition parties agreed earlier that the ruling party would recommend one candidate and two opposition parties, but with what authority does acting Choi demand an agreement between the ruling and opposition parties again?

[Park Sung-joon / Deputy floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea (MBC Radio 'Kim Jong-bae's Attention'): It doesn't make sense to say that he made such a decision on his own when he didn't give any authority to acting chief executive Choi Sang-mok. I don't think it's in line with the constitutional order.]

National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik is also actively considering requesting a power dispute trial for acting Choi's decision.

It is said that the legislature's right to elect a constitutional judge for the National Assembly has been violated, and it is expected to clarify its position as early as this week.

The Independent Counsel for Insurrection Act and the Special Counsel for First Lady Kim Gun-hee Act, which Choi exercised his right to demand reconsideration, are expected to be re-voted by the National Assembly.

While the ruling party's indication that it can consult with the opposition party on revising the toxic clause is interpreted as a way to crack down on the breakaway vote within the party, some observers say that the actual negotiations on the special prosecutor's amendment are unlikely even after the re-vote.
