Gyeonggi-do Province announced that it has selected five places: Gongneungcheon in Goyang City, Buyongcheon and Jungnangcheon in Uijeongbu City, Dongducheon Stream in Dongducheon City, Pocheon in Pocheon City, and Saneungcheon in Namyangju City for the Local River Low-Carbon Waterfront Park Project" which was held for northern cities and counties."

This project is one of the major renovation projects in northern Gyeonggi Province that Governor Kim Dong-yeon is pushing for.

Until now, river improvement projects have been carried out mainly on disaster prevention, but the core of this project is to create a waterfront park that residents can enjoy in their daily lives with a focus on people and nature. The city of Goyang

plans to create a waterfront park with bicycle paths and botanical gardens on 2km of Gongneungcheon Stream.

Uijeongbu City will build five shelters, a 1,000㎡ swimming pool, lighting facilities, and a music garden in Buyongcheon and Jungnangcheon.

Pocheon City will build three waterfront parks in the middle of Pocheon Stream consisting of a circular square, a water playground, and a scent garden.

Dongducheon City will repair trails and install streetlights and CCTVs in Dongducheon Stream 4km for residents and tourists who use Wangbang and Tapdong Valley.

Namyangju City will build a trail 1km of Saneungcheon Stream and connect bicycle paths through Dasan New Town to Wangsukcheon Stream and Han River.

The province plans to complete the project by December next year.

"The goal is to create a space where you can walk in rivers, relax and stay in shelters, away from the existing dimensional project," said Oh Ho-seok, deputy governor of Gyeonggi-do Province. "We will develop it as a tourist attraction to help develop the local economy."
