National Tax Service Commissioner Kang Min-soo said he feels a heavy responsibility as a commissioner due to the two consecutive years of large-scale tax losses.

In his 2025 New Year's address released today (2nd), Director Kang said, "Although we are disappointed, we have also made our own achievements in implementing fair cleaning and securing organizational capabilities, including strict punishment for unfair tax evasion, expanding the budget for appraisal of high-priced real estate, imposing enforcement penalties and paying rewards."

With this year's pledge, he said he would implement the year-end settlement service, which was reorganized to support taxpayers' voluntary reporting and payment, without a hitch from the beginning of the year.

It also added that it will introduce an artificial intelligence (AI) telephone consultation system to front-line tax offices across the country and settle an intelligent Hometax that provides only what each needs depending on the type or timing of the taxpayer.

Commissioner Kang said he will also push for refund services that are more convenient and accurate than private platforms and free of charge, extend delivery dates, and suspend foreclosure and sale to small business owners, small and medium-sized businesses, and taxpayers suffering from disasters.

The tax investigation and reporting verification will be strictly enforced, and the number of investigations will be flexible in consideration of economic conditions and manpower conditions, but the investigation team of local offices and tax offices will be efficiently reorganized and AI and big data technologies will be reflected in the entire investigation system.

Regarding the Muan Jeju Air disaster, Commissioner Kang said he would like to express his deep condolences and consolation to those who lost their loved ones in the plane crash.
