The appeals trial of Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act will begin on the 23rd.

The Seoul High Court has set the first trial date for the second trial of Lee's violation of the election law at 3 p.m. on Thursday, the 23rd.

This is about two months after the first trial in November last year sentenced CEO Lee to one year in prison and two years of probation.

Since then, both representative Lee and the prosecution have appealed against the first trial's ruling, and the court has selected a public defender and notified him because he has not yet submitted a lawyer appointment.

If a fine of more than 1 million won is confirmed by the Supreme Court for violating the election law, Lee will lose his parliamentary seat and will not be able to run for president for 10 years.

Representative Lee falsely stated that he did not play golf with the late Seongnam Urban Development Corporation Director Kim Moon-ki in 2021, who was the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, or
He is accused of violating the Public Official Election Act by publishing false information related to the suspicion of preferential treatment for repurposing the site of the Korea Food Research Institute in Baekhyun-dong, Seongnam-si.
