"Trump is very strong and unpredictable," Zelensky said in a local TV interview broadcast on the 2nd local time, according to AFP and Ukraine's state-run news agency Ukraineform. "I really hope his unpredictability applies to Russia."
He also stressed that Trump could play a decisive role in the war and that he could actually stop Russian President Putin or help Ukraine stop Putin.
President Zelensky added that he believes Trump in particular sincerely wants to end the war.
It also said it supports deploying French peacekeepers to the country to ensure compliance with the deal if it is linked to Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
I support this idea, but France alone is not enough, and I think one or two countries will not be enough.
Trump has insisted on an early end to the war in Ukraine, vowing during the election process that he could "end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours if he takes office."
Last month, he also worked directly on behind-the-scenes efforts to end the war, meeting with President Zelensky in Paris in the form of a three-way meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
At the time, U.S. media reports reported that Trump said he hoped European troops would be stationed in Ukraine after the end of the war to monitor the ceasefire.
President Zelenskyy said in an interview, "We keep in touch, and we've had real-time meetings," stressing that his communication with Trump has been positive.
