The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission has launched an investigation into a radiation exposure incident at Samsung Medical Center.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission said Samsung Medical Center belatedly recognized that its guardian was staying in the accelerator room, where treatment was underway, after ending patient treatment using a linear accelerator at around 9 p.m. yesterday (2nd), and reported it to the Nuclear Safety and Security Agency (KINS).

Samsung Medical Center explained that the exposure was located about 2 meters away from the linear accelerator at the time of the incident and that there were no specific symptoms related to radiation exposure.

The Nuclear Safety and Technology Commission plans to send experts from the Korea Nuclear Safety and Technology Institute to the site to understand the details of the incident and the exposure dose assessment, and also to check for violations of the Nuclear Safety Act.
