The risk of forest fires is increasing due to the prolonged dry weather warning in the East Coast region.

The National Institute of Forest Research said that the forest fire risk index in Gangwon-Yeongnam's east coast is expected to rise from "high" to "somewhat high" from this afternoon (3rd), urging people to be careful not to cause wildfires.

This is because the dryness of the East Coast region was low nationwide in December last year.

The nation's cumulative precipitation in December last year was 6.5 mm, which was only 22.7% of the average year, while Gangwon and Gyeongbuk recorded 18.5% and 14% respectively, and only 0.1 mm in Gyeongnam in particular.

Among them, wind gusts of more than 15 meters per second are expected to blow across the country today, which is expected to increase the risk of forest fires in the East Coast region.

The east coast of Gangwon-do has been maintained since December 22nd last year, and the east coast of Yeongnam has been maintained since December 13th.
