Soldiers from the 55th Guard Corps of the Army Capital Defense Command clashed head-on with high-ranking officials who visited Hannam-dong's residence to execute an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol on the morning of the 3rd.
The 55th Guard Corps, which is in charge of security outside the presidential residence, mobilized a number of ordinary soldiers to prevent the Airborne Division from entering the residence.
Earlier, the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit warned several times that if they block the execution of arrest warrants, such as barricading, they can be arrested on charges of obstructing the execution of special public affairs or punished according to the law.
There are concerns that soldiers who moved according to the commander's order could even face the risk of criminal punishment on charges such as obstruction of justice.
The Ministry of National Defense drew a line saying that military forces were mobilized to block the execution of President Yoon's arrest warrant, which is under the jurisdiction of the Presidential Security Service.
Although the 55th Guard is a unit belonging to the Defense Security Agency, it is assigned to the Security Service under the Presidential Security Act, and the authority to command and control is in the Security Service.
The Ministry of National Defense spokesman Jeon Ha-kyu said, "The security service controls the military troops (55 guards) who support the guard outside the residence. The exact situation cannot be confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense."
This is similar to the emergency martial law situation on December 3.
At that time, a total of 61 soldiers, including 42 military police officers and 19 guards, were deployed to martial law forces to block the National Assembly. Special forces have also mobilized soldiers to the National Assembly and the National Election Commission as support forces such as drivers.
