The U.S. government said it expects the government, the National Assembly and the people to work together to move forward stably in connection with the political turmoil in South Korea.

John Kirby, the White House National Security Council's communications adviser, said in an online briefing that he was working closely with the South Korean government, including the acting president, to advance the values and interests shared by South Korea and the U.S.

He also noted and praised Acting President Choi Sang-mok's focus on stabilizing state affairs.

At the same time, he explained that he expects the Korean government to move forward while complying with the procedures set out in the Constitution, and that he will open a communication channel with the Korean government.

Kirby frequently used the term "ironclad alliance," but emphasized that he meant it, especially when it came to Korea.

Kirby said, "We will continue to stand with South Korea and the Korean people," adding, "We will have a mutual defense posture between South Korea and the U.S. to respond to external provocations or threats."
