The political turmoil has continued for more than a month, and concerns are growing over the Asia-Pacific Economic Community, or the APEC summit, which is scheduled to be held in Gyeongju this November.

North Gyeongsang Province has asked the National Assembly for a delegation to dispel the uneasy gaze of APEC members.

Reporter Lee Yun-jae reports.

Last November, the APEC summit was held in Lima, Peru.

President Yoon Suk Yeol sat next to President Dina Boluarte of Peru, which is the chair country.

Taking over the presidency here, APEC's hosting of this year's race has been confirmed.

However, concerns about holding the summit are growing amid the political turmoil that began with martial law.

I am worried that foreign relations will falter and the government's preparation process will not be easy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that there is no problem with holding the summit, saying that the host of APEC is the Republic of Korea, not the president himself.

He added that the arrangement of accommodation and conference facilities is also going as planned.

[Kim Sang-cheol / Head of APEC Preparation Support: Construction is currently underway at the site to complete the preparation of accommodation facilities related to the preparation of accommodation for state guests before the meeting. With regard to the exhibition hall, media center, and summit hall, we will put all our capabilities into it without a hitch....]

Some say that the National Assembly should join forces with the government to form a delegation to clean up other countries' concerns about the domestic situation.

[Lee Chul-woo / Governor of North Gyeongsang Province] I can hear people worried about whether (the domestic situation) will normalize, especially in foreign countries. In order to dispel this, the ruling, opposition, and government sent a delegation to 21 countries to attend APEC....]

About 2,000 high-ranking officials from 21 countries will begin a meeting in Gyeongju next month to negotiate the agenda.

Attention is focusing on the future preparation process to see if we can overcome difficulties and play APEC properly.
