Pulkovo Airport in the country's second-largest city of St. Petersburg was shut down at one point on the 4th local time, the Federal Aviation Transportation Authority said.

The Federal Aviation Administration suspended the take-off and landing of the aircraft at Pulkovo Airport from 7:45 a.m. on the 4th and lifted it at 10:15 a.m.

"Crews, controllers and airport service staff are taking all necessary measures to ensure civil aviation safety," the Federal Aviation Administration said.

It did not elaborate on the reasons for the safety measures, but it frequently shuts down operations when there is a risk of Ukrainian drone strikes at Russian airports

The local governor said on Telegram that Russian air defenses shot down two drones in the Gulf of Finland, with no material or human damage.

It added that the drone, which was shot down for the second time, traveled through the province of Pskov, southwest of St. Petersburg.

Russia's defence ministry said it had shot down 16 Ukrainian drones overnight, one over Pskov and one over Leningrad.
