A research team led by Yoon Seok-jun, a professor of preventive medicine at Korea University School of Medicine, released the results of this analysis based on health insurance data from 2008 to 2020.
As a result of comparative analysis by dividing income into five divisions according to the amount of health insurance premiums, the health life expectancy of the highest-income class was 74.88 years, 8.66 years longer than that of the lowest-income class, 66.22 years.
Based on these results, the research team emphasized the need to come up with a strategy to resolve health inequality that prioritizes groups with short healthy life expectancy.
Healthy life expectancy is the life expectancy excluding the period of illness or disability, and refers to the period of healthy spending without getting sick.
