'Squid Game' is the most popular film of all time on Netflix, depicting the process of people who participate in a mysterious survival game with a prize money of 45.6 billion won risking their lives to enter the game to become the winner.
Season 2, which came off the veil on the 26th of last month, tells the story of Sung Ki-hoon (Lee Jung-jae), the winner of the last game, vowing revenge on the game's architect and jumping into survival once again. The work is once again heating up the world, ranking No. 1 in the top 10 global Netflix series in 93 countries within two days of its release.
In particular, in season 2, actor Park Kyu-young is drawing attention as she plays the role of Pink Guard, not a participant in the "Squid Game." On the 3rd, YTN held an interview with Park Kyu-young to answer questions related to the work.
Next is Park Kyu-young and Moon Jae-in.
Q. Since the second season was released, we have achieved good results by ranking No. 1 globally, how do you feel?
Park Kyu-young: I knew it was a global work, but I feel really global. First of all, I would like to thank you for your good performance. Watching the enormous number of articles related to the "Squid Game" coming out, I feel the impact of the work. Also, I couldn't talk about the work because I had an embargo for a long time, but it is refreshing to be able to talk about my feelings like this.
Q. Didn't the global syndrome of the first season and the resulting high expectations act as a pressure or pressure?
Park Kyu-young: Since it is a series that has been loved all over the world, I challenged it thinking that if I had the opportunity to audition, I should of course do it. I thought I had to participate, and there was no reason not to.
It's a lie to say there was no pressure from season 1, but I don't think it's my area to be about box office. I think it's up to me to express my character understandably and convincingly to viewers.
Q. Appearing as Pink Guard, not as a participant in the game, drew attention as a kind of twist.
Park Kyu-young: I didn't know it was a pink guard role when I auditioned. However, I thought my role would be meaningful because the story of Pink Guard or their emotions have never been explained. Therefore, it seems that expectations were higher than burdens. There was an expectation that something that had not been explained could be explained through my role. In particular, Kang No-eul is a character whose form exists in her work is very clear, so she became more greedy for the role.
Q. What kind of character does Park Kyu-young think of Kang No-eul?
Park Kyu-young: I thought he was a person who couldn't show his face and live with confidence because of the guilt of leaving his daughter in North Korea. I can't see all of his life, but I thought about what it would look like to live with the loss of the most precious thing. Therefore, I burned my body fat to the point where all the moisture was blown away, dressed up as blemishes, and styled my hair like a stubble.
Noeul is a person who has no will or clue to life except for the small possibility of finding his daughter. He doesn't think he deserves to live on his own. However, it tries to prevent actions that humans think are contrary to the minimum ethics and principles they can do to humans.
In season 3, I have no doubt that the part that many people were probably curious about and the unfinished story will be clearly explained. In particular, I think I can show you a little more of the sunset. Noel will move without hesitation toward the beliefs he thinks are right. I think I can give you a tip that you think you will play a lot.
Q. Since the release of the work, many viewers have speculated the connection between Kang Sae-byeok and Kang No-eul in season 1.
Park Kyu-young: I'm also enjoying the viewers' predictions and speculations. He also speculated that Kang Noeul was Sung Ki-hoon's daughter.(laughs) I'm grateful that such interest means there's an expectation for the work.
I also talked to the director about the name of the role. The director explained that dawn is a character that goes toward light for life in the dark, and sunset is a character that even the embers of life are extinguished.
Q. I wonder what has changed or grown while appearing in the "Squid Game" series.
Park Kyu-young: It is also true that it is burdensome to give great interest in the 'Squid Game' first of all. Usually, I think it's important to keep your balance, but I learned from this work that it's important to keep your balance even more.
I've been living in a sprint without looking back, but I had time to breathe for the first time after filming 'Squid Game'. This year, I want to breathe a little more and specify my favorite hobbies. And if I have a chance to talk about good works, I want to do better.
