Wife in 30s acquitted of 'Husband Nicotine Addiction'

A wife in her 30s, who was sentenced to heavy punishment in the first and second trials for killing her husband for nicotine addiction, was acquitted after a revocation and remand.

The Supreme Court upheld the original ruling that acquitted Mr. A, who was put on trial for murder.

Earlier, the Suwon High Court's remand court explained that it is difficult to let them drink secretly because drinking high-concentration nicotine undiluted solution can cause the pain of stabbing or burning the tongue.

In the meantime, A was acquitted, saying it was difficult to rule out the possibility that other acts, such as the victim was emotionally unstable and that he had attempted suicide in the past, and the Supreme Court also judged that the lower court did not misunderstand the law.

In May 2021, Mr. A was put on trial in custody on charges of causing his husband to die of nicotine addiction by making him eat grain powder, white porridge, and cold water containing more than a lethal amount of nicotine liquid three times.

At that time, the first trial court sentenced A to 30 years in prison, saying that the circumstances of demanding undiluted liquid at the time of purchasing liquid nicotine were linked to the intention of murder, and the second trial also maintained the sentence.
