By the close of the day on the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones 30 Industrial Average closed at 42,528.36, down 0.48% from the previous session.
The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 closed at 5,909.04, down 1.11% from the previous session, and the Nasdaq Composite plunged 1.89% to 19,489.68.
The move is attributed to weaker expectations for a key rate cut due to hotter-than-expected prices, a rise in U.S. Treasury yields and a stronger sell-off of tech stocks due to disappointment in new Nvidia products.
It is also interpreted that while the U.S. service industry index remained expanding, the price index exceeded expectations.
