Hyundai Steel said it is considering various measures to ensure sustainable growth and global competitiveness, but nothing has been decided so far.
A Hyundai Motor Group official also stressed that nothing has been set, such as the region or the amount of investment, although various scenarios are being considered in preparation for the steel industry recession and the Trump administration's strengthening of protectionism.
Hyundai Steel said it will re-disclose when specific matters are decided in this regard.
Earlier, Hyundai Steel President Seo Kang-hyun drew attention when he said at a shareholders' meeting in March last year that he was also considering a local production base to cope with global protectionism.
