Governor Kim visited Onsemi, a global power semiconductor company in Bucheon, today (9th) and met with Onsemi Korea CEO Kang Byung-gon, saying, "Onsemi will actively support Onsemi to expand continuous investment and employment in Gyeonggi Province."
The visit was an "economic move" following a visit to the U.S. and European Chamber of Commerce in Korea the previous day, aimed at reassuring foreign investors who may feel a sense of crisis due to the domestic situation.
Governor Kim said, "There are two shocks to the Korean economy now, Trump and Yoon Seok-yeol, and foreign investors have no choice but to worry," adding, "But don't worry at all." It is the current Korean economy that has overcome the crisis and created it in difficulties, he stressed.
He continued, "There is nothing to worry about conservatives or progressives in economic activities. Proper progress is to respect the market economy and help companies do enough business, he said, adding, "I will also do my best."
Onsemi, headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, acquired the successor company of Korean semiconductors, which was founded in Bucheon in 1974, in 2016, and plans to invest a total of 1.4 trillion won in Bucheon by this year.
